28/04/2008 The biggest loser is the winnerJust reviewing my posting around the time I did 20/20 seems like this is another time for a similar challenge. While this time it is primarily going to be on my own I have others to measure myself against, which is always good. However, I think this is something I want to expand beyond food and exercise for aesthetic reason. This is generally getting back to the original plan. Here I go again, wish me luck. Will keep y'all posted. 19/02/2007 Tooth Extraction gone BadI recently had a tooth extracted. It has been a week of hell, the amount of pain I am feeling is astounding. Sleep has been an exercise in pain and my latest diagnosis is a dry socket. Dry socket is essentially an exposed nerve and bone.. OMG! this pain is killing me!!!!
How come the denstists don't tell you about this complication until afterwards, my advice -- don't have extractions unless you ABSOLUTELY have to.
8/05/2006 Let the 20/20 Journey BeginIf you are a reader of my blog, you will remember that I have tried to improve my health and aesthetics with diet and exercise a couple of times in the past. Yes, I got some limited success, but nothing that is sustainable.
So I decided to bite the bullet and join this program at work called 20/20 Lifestyles. Essentially what it is, is 10 weeks of intense diet and exercise followed by 12 weeks in what is called the maintenance phase.
The program consists of:
Today, I just had the psych evaluation. By the end of July, I fully expet to be 175 pounds or less. To be physically as fit as someone coming out of a military bootcamp i.e. sub 10 min mile, be able to jog for 5 miles etc. And of course I plan on looking good.
In addition, I plan on getting back to reading, I had just obtained the first two books I ordered. The fine art of small talk by Debra Fine and Jim Cramer's Real Money. I hope to be posting reviews soon. 24/04/2006 Liquid CaloriesLiquid Calories doesn't help your diet at all. You still get as much calories, but you are still as hungry after as you were before. 25/09/2005 Four Paths to a Happier YouI think this article is interesting especially the section on ABCDE of conflict (with your self) Adversity - realistic picture of what adversity you are facing Belief - your beliefs about the situation, some of which might not be based on fact Consequences - clearly and rationally evaluate the consequences of the first two Dispute - routine belief to break cycle of pessimism Energize - Energize yourself to change whatever negativism you have
These makes sense to me, more so this weekend, when someone special to mean said they are a "mean" person. Under the guise of people should be who they are. While I agree with that "ism" in general, I think this is the wrong context, the point of most of live and civilization not to mention Christianity is to change who we are so we can have a better life. Quote MSN Health & Fitness - Four Paths to a Happier You 20/06/2005 Health is WealthThis is a common saying when I was growing up, but is it really? One of those truisms that is not really true. I love living in Seattle, beautiful morning driving over the bridge, amazing view, blaring hiphop and in my best - ABM (Angry Black Man) mood. I am sure, I can take on the world. However, I need to start by taking on myself. I was at work at 7am beautifully working through the issues of the day, when my mentors IMed. I said, "hey man, you are at work early", he said "this is how people work at MS" I said "Well, I am learning..." he said "you will not beat me" and I said "I won't try, I just have to beat myself" End of conversation. Seemingly innocuous conversation, right? No. That conversation is loaded, it shows the culture here. This is a place where you can absolutely do your best work, people are very competitive and I doubt anyone is ever satisified. I think we all know it, but to keep trying keep pushing harder than anyone else is why we are here. I am back to reading what I called my fundamental books again, this are books I read on my bedside. Those that I used to motivate myself, including the bible of course. From time to time I will share the things I am learning from the books here. Lesson 1: Have a deep sincere desire to learn and excel at human relations. |
