    Immigrant Day & Rat Race

Today is the so called  "immigrant's day" also called several other names by the various organizers. The idea is that  immigrants across the country are supposed to fight for thier rights by refusing to show up for work.
I can't help  but it reminded of the days in UI - when I used to love politics. Aluta Continua.

IN my experience, whenever people protest or demonstrate, most of the people have no clear understanding of why they are protesting.
Imagine, refusing to work as a means to fight for the right to work. It is funny how people often act against their own self interest.

A caveat - this is not a comment on the whole movement, I havent been up to date on the issues - just a comment on a single observation.

What is the value of a life?

The event of Katrina devastation in New Orleans has brought back some of the memories of 9/11 especially what goes on after the death and tragedy. How do we then calculate the value of human life, especially when congress decides to compensate people. In the case of 9/11 it was to prevent suing of the airlines.
Given the racial undertones of this particular tragedy it would be interesting in what ways and how the Bush' administration responds.
